Computer Use Policy


Mount Carmel Public Library Computer Policy

This library is committed to its continuing role in serving the community with education and information services for all of its citizens. Access to the Internet provides all age groups with additional informative and educational resources. The Internet is always changing, and so there is no guarantee that the information you access is accurate, complete, current, or lawful. Some information may contain materials that are offensive to some patrons. This library is not responsible for accessed Internet content. You are responsible for the sites you access. Parents or guardians are responsible for the sites their children access. You are responsible for using the library’s computers and the Internet in a courteous and ethical manner. Do not engage in unlawful activity, including the pirating (illegal downloading) of movies, music, books, etc. Be conscious of copyright and software license agreements. This service may be equipped with an Internet filter. If so, it is to promote use that is consistent with the nature and function of the library.

Usage and Responsibility
         This service is available on a first come, first serve basis. Every user should familiarize themselves with the Computer User Agreement.  Mount Carmel Public Library now has a Time Management System. Patrons are limited to 2 hours if others are waiting to use the computers.  Parents or guardians are wholly responsible for their children’s use of the computer. We also remind parents and guardians that they are accountable for the child’s behavior while they themselves are using the computers.

There will be a fee charged for printing pages – 15 cents per page. 

Students are allowed 25 free copies per visit for school work.

The computer lab will be closed 15 minutes before the library closes.

All users are expected to use these computers in a manner that is consistent with the library policies. Examples of unacceptable use include, but are not limited to:

·       violation of computer security system

·       damaging or altering the software or hardware in any way

·       any activities which violate federal, state, or local laws

·       activities that disturb other patrons in their use of the library

·       accessing material that is obscene or harmful to minors, such as pornography

Violations of the User Agreement

Patrons that violate these rules and policies will be advised of the library’s policies and asked to comply. If after being told of said policies, you do not comply, you will be restricted from using these computers.
